Keeping a Chihuahua Warm

As you may have read from the History page, Chihuahuas have spent hundreds of years living in and adapting to the very warm and sunny deserts of Mexico.

As the smallest dog breed, they are really not equipt to deal with cold temperatures. Given their tiny size and short coat, a Chihuahua should wear a sweater or coat when outside if ever the temperature falls below 55 degrees.

Chihuahuas have a higher body temperature and a higher metabolism than most other dogs, and need to be kept warm in order to be healthy and happy.
